Metro Saathi

Overview

Metro Saathi is a fully offline companion app for the Delhi NCR metro. It covers 268+ real stations across all 9 DMRC lines plus the Aqua Line (NMRC), and everything (route planning, fares, the full network map and station search) works with zero network dependency. It is live on Google Play.

The Problem

Commuters usually need a route, a fare and the right interchange at the exact moment their signal drops: underground, inside a crowded station, or on a slow connection. Most metro apps depend on a live server for routing, so they fail exactly when they are needed.

What We Built

• Route Finder: shortest-path search across all 268+ stations, with interchange detection, fare, and time and distance estimates
• Interactive Metro Map: a pinch-to-zoom map of all 9 lines and the Aqua Line; tap any station for its details
• Station Directory: search, filter by line, and facility info such as lifts, ATMs and wheelchair access
• Fares & Tickets: the full fare table by distance slab, Airport Express fares and Tourist Card info
• Metro Timings: first and last train, plus peak and off-peak frequency for every line
• Tourist Guide: 20 Delhi attractions mapped to their nearest metro station
• Phase 4 Corridors: all 6 upcoming corridors, with an optional live news check
• Tips & Rules: ticketing, etiquette, safety, accessibility and emergency helplines

Engineering Highlights

• Hand-built offline pathfinding. The whole DMRC and NMRC network is bundled in the app as a graph, and a breadth-first search computes routes on the device. There is no routing API and no server cost, and nothing breaks without a connection.
• Offline by design. The only network call is one optional, read-only fetch for Phase 4 news. Everything else ships inside the app.
• Lean build. The Android build uses an arm64-v8a-only ABI split to keep the APK small.
• Continuous integration. Every push is checked by a GitHub Actions React Native CI workflow.
