Overview

Internet Speed Meter shows live download and upload speeds all the time, and can run a quick speed test on demand.

What It Does

• Live download (↓) and upload (↑) speed
• Always-on monitor in the notification area
• Home-screen widget with current speeds
• Data used this session: downloaded and uploaded
• Wi-Fi and mobile data connection type
• Quick speed test on demand
• Start automatically on boot (optional)

How It's Built

• Live speed is calculated by sampling Android's TrafficStats byte counters at regular intervals.
• Background monitoring: a foreground service keeps speeds updated, and a boot receiver restarts it after a reboot.
• Widget: an AppWidgetProvider displays the speeds on the home screen.

Status

Complete and installable as an Android app. Not yet published on Google Play.
